Vancouver Island Fire Fighters Association 2016 Fall Training

Fall Training 2016 will be hosted by the Courtenay Fire Department. They have offered VIFFA members the use of their new Training Centre as one of the venues for the great course line-up this November. The highlight of the facility is a new live fire training building. Constructed from cost-effective sea containers, the building offers natural gas fire simulation and artificial smoke, and the ability to turn the fire on and off by a switch. Movable walls and floor plans can simulate a residential home, hotel, motel, or commercial building. The building also features digital fire technology which provides safe and comprehensive hands-on training using realistic, self-generating digital flames that respond directly to the trainee’s actions.

Pacific Regional Firefit Championships

There is an inaugural and exciting event coming to the North Okanagan promoting sport, competition, and excellence among firefighters. As seen on ESPN: The “Tough- est Two Minutes in Sports”, The Firefighter Combat Challenge, a spectacle in fitness and performance is coming to Vernon Toyota at 3401 48th Avenue on May 28th and 29th 2016—brought to you by Naturally Fit and supported by North Okanagan Fire Departments.

This is an enjoyable family-friendly exhibition of fitness while revealing the spirit and performance of a firefighter’s job.

Pacific Regional FireFit Championships can’t happen without the support of the com- munity it’s in. We are asking for volunteers to work the course—no skills or experience required. We are also looking for people with medical training or anyone with a pas- sion to work behind the scenes to launch this high profile weekend event.

Interested? Questions? Contact: Asst. Fire Chief Fiona Morgenthaler-Code:
